A colourful world is a beautiful world. But behind the colours you see, there’s a depth that can affect the way you feel, the way you live and your overall wellbeing. The colours you’re drawn to have the power to change perceptions, lift your mood, motivate, and relax.
Think about a brilliant sunrise. Stop for a moment, close your eyes and see. How do you feel? Or have you noticed that on some days there are certain coloured clothes that you ‘just don’t feel like wearing’ and other days you feel fabulous in those same clothes?
As a child, and later as an artist and interior designer I’ve had ‘aha’ moments with colour. Sensing a mystery in colour – a bridge between the invisible and visible worlds. A calling: to look deeper and to explore the psychology behind the hues.
What is Colour Psychology?
Colour Psychology is about understanding your emotional, psychological, and physiological reactions to colour. It’s about increasing your perception and understanding the energy fields behind colours. It’s about more than the awareness of hues on a colour wheel and being able to avoid mistakes in colour selection. Colour Psychology, simply, extends beyond colour selection.
Colour psychology goes above the visual experience. It allows you to tune into your subconscious to consciously select colours that influence how you feel, think, and do.
It’s the deeper understanding of how people subconsciously respond to colour that intrigues me. How this can be reflected through great interior design inspires and drives me. Perhaps you could say that getting lost in the depth of colour is where I found myself. Naturally drawn to introducing Colour Psychology as a design modality that so deeply aligns to the Cardwell Inc. conscious design ethos.
Enhancing the spaces inside your home with colour
Have you ever walked into a space where you instantly feel happy or grounded? Or perhaps you’ve walked into spaces that made you feel unsettled and overwhelmed. Your response to colour is often on a subconscious level. It has the ability to show you what is happening in your life and how you’re feeling. Colours can stimulate positive emotional responses and influence your wellbeing. Colours can also enhance feelings of stress, anxiety and overwhelm.
But the use of colour to deepen emotions within your home and improve your wellbeing isn’t a one-size-fits-all-approach. How you respond to colour is personal. Reactions to colour can differ between cultures and your experiences, up-bringing and personality.
When thinking about choosing colours within your home, ask yourself – what colours are you drawn to and what mood do you want to create in each space?
As an interior designer specialising in colour psychology, I’m here to awaken your responses to colour and draw these feelings into your home. To, quite simply, show you how colour can transform your life and enhance the way you live.
It’s a considered process not only from a colour psychology perspective, but also from the architectural viewpoint and how light falls within your spaces. Understanding that the right tonal palette, for you, has the power to add dynamic touches, calm and quieten spaces, or connect you with family and friends.
Specialising in Colour Psychology allows me to deepen the understanding of your emotional, physical and mental responses to colour within your home. Creating an environment that embodies the energy of your family and transforms spaces to be, uniquely yours.
Places and spaces you can’t wait to come home to and live in.
